The purpose of this study is to analyse the normal kinematic patellofermoral motion during the first 30 degrees of knee flexion by using computeriaed tomography.
Ten males and ten females were involved in this study.
The axial patellofemoral images were made through the middle of the patellar articular cartilage according to the degree of degree of knee flexion 0¡Æ, 10¡Æ, 20¡Æ, 30¡Æ, respectively.
Five indices were measured on each axial patellofemoral images for 3 times by two different orthopedic surgeons and the results were analysed by using computer.
During the knee motion from extension to 30¡Æ of flexion the sulcus angle became smaller, the congruence angle was toward more medially, the lateral patellofemoral angle was bigger, the lateral patellar displacement moved toward medially and the
lateral
patellar tilt was more medially.
In normal Korean, the patella usually lies more laterally in a tilted position with the knee in full extension., and the patella moves medially and enters the intercondylar sulcus during the first 30* of knee flexion.
